AZMI TAN SRI MOHD RAIS, 39, is our Legal Advisor and consultant. He has formal training in TaeKwonDo (WTF), Yoshinkan Aikido and Silat Sapik Kalo, Silat Cekak Hanafi, and Silat Harimau Berantai. Azmi is currently striving for his black belt in HapKiDo.

He is one of the Partners and Founder of Messrs Zulkifli Yong Azmi & Co, established since 1995. Earlier on, Azmi was an officer at the Banking Department of the Central Bank of Malaysia and a legal assistant at Messrs Zaid Ibrahim & Co.

As a Civil and Syariah (Islamic Law) lawyer, Azmi specializes in Intellectual Property laws, Islamic Matrimonial law, Muslim Estate Planning and also in Islamic Finance. He is a certified Syariah lawyer for the states of Wilayah Persekutuan, Selangor, Melaka, Pahang, Perak, Pulau Pinang and has also qualified for Brunei Darul Salam Syariah courts. Azmi is also a registered Trade Mark, Industrial and Patent Agent of Malaysia.

Azmi’s high profile clients include politicians, actors and singers. They are often cited in the media. Azmi has appeared on TV3 and TV1 on numerous occasions to give talks on Syariah matters. Azmi has also represented the Religious Authority of Wilayah Persekutuan for cases touching Constitutional issues such as the jurisdiction of the Syariah Courts and Muslim matters.

His legal firm is on the panel of many leading banks, developers, cooperatives in Malaysia and also one of the panel lawyers for the Religious Authority of Wilayah Persekutuan.

Azmi completed his secondary education at the Maktab Rendah Sains MARA in 1986 and later read law at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1989 and then completed his Masters in Banking (2005). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic Finance at the International Centre of Islamic Finance (INCEIF) Kuala Lumpur.
